#105 Italo Araujo: How do we pivot in life?

Welcome to the 4D Athletes podcast, where we explore the journeys of inspiring athletes who have excelled in sports and life. Our guest for today's episode is Italo Araujo, a former college basketball player turned coach and now a full-time referee for the NBA G League.

Italo was born and raised in Sao Luis, Maranhao, Brazil, where he developed his passion for basketball. At the age of 20, he came to America to play college basketball, attending Northwest College in Powell, Wyoming, Western Wyoming CC in Rock Springs, Wyoming, and MidAmerica Nazarene University in Olathe, Kansas.

After finishing his playing career, Italo decided to pursue coaching and spent two years coaching high school basketball before moving on to coach at the college level for three years. In 2020, Italo decided to shift gears and become a full-time referee, a move that has paid off as he was hired by the NBA G League in 2022 and just completed his first season.

Italo's journey is a testament to the power of hard work, dedication, and a willingness to take risks. His transition from player to coach to referee is a unique one and offers valuable insights for athletes looking to make a similar pivot in their careers.
